About

Anoka Ramsey Community College offers both an AFA  and a Certificate in Creative Writing on our Rapids and Cambridge Campuses. Our AFA is one of the largest, most successful, and innovative two year creative writing degrees in the country. We offer both seated and online courses, and our degrees can be completed fully online with award-winning, published professors.

Our AFA culminates in two classes: A Writer’s Life, which gives students hands-on career exploration,  publishing knowledge, and manuscript polishing. Our AFA program also has strong transfer partnerships with Augsburg University, Metropolitan State University, Hamline University, Southwest State University, University of Wisconsin-Superior, and University of Minnesota, Mankato.

Our Certificate is a streamlined degree that consists of our core creative writing classes without the 40-credit Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC).

Students in both programs are connected to our vibrant literary community through our Careers in Writing speaker series, our two visiting writers series (Two Rivers Reading Series and Minnesota Writers Series), and internship and volunteer opportunities. Students graduate from our degrees with greatly improved writing skills that prepare them for the job market and four-year degree programs.
